Sections

The present invention relates to a hand held appliance, and in particular to a hair care appliance such as a hairdryer (10) comprising a body (30) and a handle (20), in which air is drawn into the appliance through a primary fluid inlet (40) at the second end (24) of the handle (20), as shown in Fig. 4a.

In a conventional hairdryer a motor and fan draw air into the body through an inlet at its back end, usually behind a filter. When the appliance is put down on a soft surface such as bedding, that inlet can be covered and the motor can overheat.

CN 202774786 U describes a rotary electric air comb whose handle houses a motor driving a fan, with an air inlet cover at the end of the handle. In CN 201328477 Y the blower of a hairdryer sits at the bottom end of the handle, so that air enters there and passes through the handle into a longer air duct. DE 2618819 A1 describes a cylindrical hairdryer in which an axial fan at the rear of the housing draws air in through openings in an end cover that also carries the cable entry.

Each of these appliances draws air in at the end of the handle or housing, with the fan behind that inlet. The handle then houses the fan unit (70) and its wiring, and in a conventional clam shell construction its two halves are screwed together, so that a user can remove the screws and reach the heater and the fan unit.

There is therefore a need for a handle whose inner wall (220) can be formed in one piece with the body (30), while the components inside it remain accessible during assembly through an opening that can be closed.

Matters, applications, versions

A matter holds its applications, EP, US, PCT, divisionals, and each application keeps its own version history. Saving freezes the application as it stands, so a filed version stays exactly as filed and follow-on filings fork from any frozen version.

Claim 1, FIG. 2, or (101) becomes a linked chip, pinned on the drawings. Renumber anything and every mention follows. A sign never mentioned, or one number on two parts, is flagged before an examiner finds it.

  1. 1.

The appliance of claim 1, wherein a flow plate (700) is arranged within the body (30) to direct the primary fluid flow path (400) around the PCB (75).

A flow plate (700) is provided to direct the flow within the primary fluid flow path (400) over and around the PCB (75), minimising the pressure losses due to the location of the PCB and the change of direction as the flow enters the body (30).

The flow plate (700) is annular with a curved section (710) that provides a smooth change in orientation for the primary fluid flow path (400). By providing a curved surface the flow is directed around the corner, which reduces noise.

Slots (740) in the flow plate (700) receive the larger PCB components (77), so that the double layer of the PCB (75a, 75b) sits clear of the region of relatively high velocity.
