Sections

The present invention relates to a hand held appliance, and in particular to a hair care appliance such as a hairdryer (10) comprising a body (30) and a handle (20), in which air is drawn into the appliance through a primary fluid inlet (40) at the second end (24) of the handle (20), as shown in Fig. 4a.

In a conventional hairdryer a motor and fan draw air into the body through an inlet at its back end, usually behind a filter. When the appliance is put down on a soft surface such as bedding, that inlet can be covered and the motor can overheat.

CN 202774786 U describes a rotary electric air comb whose handle houses a motor driving a fan, with an air inlet cover at the end of the handle. In CN 201328477 Y the blower of a hairdryer sits at the bottom end of the handle, so that air enters there and passes through the handle into a longer air duct. DE 2618819 A1 describes a cylindrical hairdryer in which an axial fan at the rear of the housing draws air in through openings in an end cover that also carries the cable entry.

Each of these appliances draws air in at the end of the handle or housing, with the fan behind that inlet. The handle then houses the fan unit (70) and its wiring, and in a conventional clam shell construction its two halves are screwed together, so that a user can remove the screws and reach the heater and the fan unit.

There is therefore a need for a handle whose inner wall (220) can be formed in one piece with the body (30), while the components inside it remain accessible during assembly through an opening that can be closed.
